Serena D.

I cannot remember a time when I wasn’t interested in art. Being a child of Italian immigrants (now ex-pats), the importance and power of the created image was instilled in me, be it through cultural and historical references or simply as an outlet for expression. When I began painting on canvas at the age of 17, I remember feeling anxious about not creating a technically brilliant masterpiece, similar to the works in of Italian masters in museums I was rolling my eyes at in my preteens. From the moment I saw and felt the paint touch the canvas, all anxieties fled and I was hooked.
Bold, yet soft. Linear, yet fluid. Colorful, yet monochromatic. Representative, yet dreamy. These statements have all been applied to my paintings (as well as personality).
