At first, it was the process and the magic of color that drew me to art--thanks to Mom and Dad who provided endless supplies and encouragement--and later, I became absorbed in formal study, observation and practice.
Currently, I paint with acrylics on canvas, exploring an expressive representation of the human form to convey emotion and to capture a moment in time. My work leans towards the abstract, utilizing a loose application of paint and boldness of color and line. Both the observation of people and the collection of spoken and written phrases provide endless and rich material for inspiration.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in marketing and economics from Central Michigan University and have studied in the fine arts programs at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and Cabrillo College in Aptos, California. Additionally, I have participated in painting forums with many central California artists. I am a signature member of the International Society of Acrylic Painters and have been a frequent participant in Open Studios, an annual event sponsored by The Cultural Council of Santa Cruz, as well as numerous local exhibitions.
Every day I devote time to some aspect of my art journey. The experience can be exhilarating, and sometimes difficult and frustrating; but I always return to it.
